Pronunciation Debate: Louis Avenue
Welcome back to our series where we explore various street names in Windsor that have different pronunciations based on the person you ask.
This time let’s head to a street located between the downtown city centre and the beautiful Walkerville neighbourhood. Louis Avenue runs from Giles Boulevard all the way to Riverside Drive and if you recall in our Pierre Avenue debate, we discussed how sought after this area is in the Windsor real estate market right now. These Windsor homes are located in a historic neighbourhood and are full of character and are surrounded by a growing community of local businesses as well as the famous Willistead Park. It is also close to the Windsor riverfront and Downtown Windsor for access to even more greenspace and businesses making it a common place for many searching for houses for sale in Windsor to be curoius about. Now ask your Windsor REALTOR ® how they pronounce the street name and once again you’ll get different opinions and once again the French roots cause some pronunciation disagreements.
As always we polled our Jumpers, and this time there was only two variations of the pronunciation of Louis but there was no consensus on how to say it. In fact, it is our most contested debate to date. The first is the pronunciation is “Loo-iss”, just like the mens name, pretty cut and dry. Next up the French background we discussed comes back into play. The second pronunciation we heard was “Loo-EE”. Now this is where that common name argument from the Pierre Avenue debate came in, because this one is also a name, pronounced with it’s French origins. So again, which one is correct? We got no clear decision from our agents, it was a pretty split vote with both sides making the same argument about it being a name. At minimum, it was a lively debate and a fun way to kick-off a staff meeting.Wo we’ll turn it over to you, how is Louis Avenue pronounced ?
