Career Change: Making a Life Changing Decision
COVID-19 has caused many to take a step back and reconsider some things in their own lives. One common topic is their employment. Unfortunately the pandemic meant layoffs and while some have returned to work, others have not been so lucky. It also caused many who were not laid off to alter their workstyle, including a move to work from home and may found themselves more productive working without constant oversight and in comfort. All of this has led some to consider a career change to something that hits all the marks. Good money (when you work at it), be your own boss, work from and comfort, and have the necessary support to succeed. One such field that hits the mark is that of REALTOR®. Now we know it is not really breaking news that the Windsor real estate market remains hot and there seems to be great upside to becoming an agent. Yes, people are eagerly looking for Windsor homes. Search bars are frequently full of houses for sale in Windsor and homes for sale Windsor, Ontario. Do not make a rash decision however and think you should just commit and become a Windsor REALTOR®.
Sure it sounds like an easy task, you’ll buckle down, get your study cap on, and pass your tests, find your brokerage, and get to selling and making money. Consider however that those positives also have an opposite side. You work for yourself but if you’re not selling, you’re not getting paid. You work in the comfort of your home, but if you can't focus you can't succeed. You have no oversight, but are you the type to drift without a gentle nudge every once in a while. The key is to lean into the change, do not leap into it. Sleep on it, if it seems like a great idea on day 1 and you feel the same on day 7, you might be on the right path. Consider a day in the life of the new role. Are you ready to spend days making cold calls. Are you ready to drive to every corner of Windsor-Essex County. Are you ready to work long days and many times end up disappointed when you don’t win the house for your client. Are you ready to grind on weekends. These are all common in the real estate industry. You need to lean in and envision yourself in the role. If you have apprehensions, maybe it’s not the right fit. However, if all of that sounds enjoyable, you want to grind to help people, you’re a self-starter, and you have a passion for the job then maybe it is the right fit for you. Here is the key in general and the one lesson we want you to take away…
DON’T RUSH TO MAKE PERMANENT DECISIONS BASED ON TEMPORARY VARIABLES.
Yes, there is much uncertainty and questions currently in life in general. Is now the time to add to that with a career change. For some the answer is yes, for others it is no. The only one who can answer it is you. But to answer it accurately, lean into the decision, not leap in to find out. If you arrive at yes, but maybe you want some of the traditional aspects like plentiful resources, a strong culture of working together not against each other, and all the support you could ask for, consider Jump Realty Inc.
