School Round-Up: Essex and Harrow

Essex, Ontario is mostly known as the county and farmland of the region. While this is true, the town has a busy city centre with businesses as well as some residential neighbourhoods. As you move away from the core you’ll move into the rural farm land and housing. This area is still home to many families, many of whom work in agriculture. Recently, people looking for more land to live on, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, have begun to look for houses for sale in Essex, Ontario as that escape. They want to make an Essex home their quiet and quaint escape, while still being fairly close to all the amenities the downtown Essex offers.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board has just two elementary school options in Essex, Ontario.

St. Mary French Immersion Catholic Elementary School
- Located on County Road 34, just off of Ontario Highway 3, St. Mary is a French Immersion school offering the residents a French learning environment.
Holy Name Catholic Elementary School
- Located on Fairview Avenue West, this provides the English catholic option for Essex residents, and is located right next to the Essex Centre Sports Complex.

The Greater Essex County District School Board has 3 elementary and 1 secondary school in Essex along with the board’s main offices.

Essex Public School
- At the corner of Brien Avenue and County Road 23 and next to Lions Optimist Park or Stanton Park, is the one of two public elementary schools, this one servicing the city core mostly.
Colchester North Public School
- The second public school for the area, this tends to serve more of the rural and county families and is located southwest of downtown Essex on County Road 12.
Essex District High School
- Back into the city centre, located at the corner of County Road 34 and Maidstone Avenue West, or County Road 8, is Essex’s public high school serving the two above elementary schools.
Great Essex County District School Board
- Located in Fairview Avenue West just before (or after, depending which way you are heading) the bend where the road becomes South Talbot Road South is the GECDSB main offices.

Heading south from Essex, Ontario towards Lake Erie is where we’ll find Harrow, Ontario. A small town part of Essex County, it is home to one public elementary school and one public secondary school.

Harrow Public School
- Located on Centre Street E. in the heart of Harrow, just off of County Road 20 is the public elementary school for this small town
Great Essex County District School Board
- Just off of County Road 20, just minutes the opposite direction from Harrow Public school, is Harrow District High School on Wellington Street serving as the secondary school to Harrow Public.
