Windsor-Essex News: Amazon Is Coming to Windsor
More exciting news for the region came down over the weekend. Fresh on the heels of the Stellantis/LG EV Battery Plant announcement, Windsor was once again in the news as yet another large business has selected Windsor for their expansion.
E-commerce giant Amazon has purchased land in Windsor to build its first fulfillment centre in the area. Amazon has reportedly purchased 27.24 acres in the Grand Central Business Park for $11,836,487 this month according to RealTrack Inc., which publishes information on Ontario commercial real estate transactions of $500,000 and over.
While Amazon did not have an official comment, Invest WindsorEssex CEO Stephen MacKenzie said “this is a validation that the municipality and the region are on a growth trajectory, they don’t put these centres in areas that are declining.”
The new Amazon warehouse is expected to be roughly 200,000 square feet and bring 300 new jobs to the area. Construction on the project is scheduled to get underway in May. The facility will be located on the western end of the business park close to Central Avenue and borders the CNR and CPR railyard that runs parallel to E.C. Row Expressway and was the former site of Chryler’s Truck Assembly Plant.
