Home Maintenance: Swimming Pool Tips and Tricks
Our home maintenance guide continues after we’ve talked about the do’s and don'ts of grass care and why you need to keep a sharp lawn mower blade. Today we’re beating summertime heat and that means finding ways to cool down. Maybe as a homeowner you have installed a pool yourself. Alternatively, when you were searching for Windsor homes for sale a pool was on your must have list for your Windsor real estate agent. No matter how you got here, you are a pool owner and in one way or another you have made a large investment to get it, so proper care is a must. We’ve got some tips and tricks below to ensure you keep your pool ready to swim in all summer long.
- Water Quality
- Make sure you are checking water quality on a consistent basis and taking the proper steps to ensure the chemicals are in proper balance. An unbalanced pool can be unsafe to swim in if bacteria starts to grow.
- Clean, Clean, Clean
- Another task to be done on a consistent basis is to ensure baskets, filters, and catch basins are cleaned out. Clogged catch basins, filters, baskets, etc. can lead to your pool not being cleaned by the system.
- Water Level
- Keep your pool at the recommended water level to ensure proper function of the system. Water too low can lead to pump burnout and too high can lead to the skimmer and filter not working properly.
- Vacuum, Skim, Scrub
- Skimming is normally done daily to remove all the debris floating on the surface of the water. Vacuuming can be done less frequently, but still weekly to clean dirt and other small debris that settles at the bottom. Don’t forget to scrub the sides of your pool with a scrub brush to remove oils, dirt, and other contaminants that attach themselves to the side and aren’t caught by the vacuum.
- Proper Winterization
- Be sure to have a professional come out and winterize your pool. They will blow out water lines ensuring no water remains and freezes that can cause cracking and cost you tens of thousands in repairs. They will also winterize your pump and systems to ensure they are ready to go for next spring.
