Beat The Heat: DIY Backyard Slip ‘N Slide
The weather remains hot here in Windsor-Essex and many are looking for ways to beat the heat. In the past we talked about pools and sure these are a great way to keep cool and attract buyers looking for houses for sale in Windsor. What if however you do not have a pool and are looking for a way to keep the kids cool outdoors this summer? We’ve got you covered with a relatively cheap and quick way to have some fun outdoors and to beat the heat. All you need is a little bit of space, some plastic, and water. That’s right, we’re doing a DIY Slip ’N Slide in 5 quick and easy steps below.
- Location
- All you need is some space. You don’t need a hill or 50 feet, (although if you do, it’s a bonus) just some open space free of debris on the ground. Make sure to pick-up twigs, sticks, rocks, etc.
- Set-Up
- Layout your plastic sheet the maximum length you can safely do in your space. Make sure you are not too close to obstacles you could run into. The sheets are typically large so fold as necessary, this is a bonus as it can add extra protection and layers on top of the ground.
- Pin It Down
- Can’t have the slip ‘n slide blowing away or moving as you slip and slide down it. Get some landscaping stakes while you are buying your plastic sheet and stake your sheet into the ground to secure it in place.
- Just Add Water (and maybe some extras)
- All turn on the hose or sprinkler and get that plastic wet and ready to slip and slide on. For some extra slipperiness you can add baby shampoo/soap to the plastic. Keep the hose on for a constant flow of water or add a sprinkler to keep it wet and the kids something to slide through. For even more fun, you can add some pool floaties to slide on, these are great when on a bit of uneven ground too.
- Slip ‘N Slide Away
- Start slipping and sliding up and down your new backyard activity and stay cool this summer! Bonus tip: move it around your area if possible to avoid killing the lawn.
