Community Guide: Amherstburg Open Air Weekends
The Town of Amherstburg voted last night to approve the return of a community favourite event. Open Air weekends will run every weekend from June 2nd to September 3rd. As with past years, from Friday evening to Sunday evening the streets of Downtown Amherstburg will be closed to traffic and open for visitors to walk and enjoy an open air atmosphere. From retail stores, to cafes, to outdoor restaurant patios, the businesses of Amherstburg will take over a portion of Dalhousie Street for the community to enjoy.
The town hall meeting was filled with debate and discussion as to how long should the event run and how many days should the streets be closed as some local businesses found that they could prove detrimental to them. The final decision was to maintain Friday to Sunday, and to run for 14 weeks. The town says they are prepared to adjust next season based on what they learn this year.
The town introduced a variety of new activities around King’s Navy Yard Park last season with a focus on things to do as a family, plus live music. Keep an eye out for more information from the Town of Amherstburg as we get closer to Open Air Weekends.
