Places To Visit: King’s Navy Yard Park
Looking for some cool places to visit this summer? We’ll take some time to highlight different places, events, and activities you can do this summer to get out and explore Windsor-Essex.
Let’s start in Amherstburg, Ontario, home of the iconic King’s Navy Yard Park. Located on Dalhousie Street and on the banks of the Detroit River, this 10.5 acre park mirrors the Navy Yard of 1796 that was located there. The yard was responsible for the construction of several Provincial War Ships that fought in the War of 1812. Uniquely, this park also boasts four historical buildings used during the war including the Gordon House, which was once an infirmary, now used by the town as a tourism info centre to learn more all about the park.
King’s Navy Yard park is home to their iconic and award-winning gardens, outdoor pavilions, plenty of space to sit and enjoy the scenery, and paths for walking and enjoying the views of the waterfront. These paths also connect the park to the bustling downtown core of Amherstburg. If you head down during the weekends this summer you can enjoy Amherstburg Open Air Weekends, allowing you to walk the streets and into the park to enjoy some ice cream from Nuccelli’s or Waterfront Ice Cream, a coffee from Caffeine and Co., or a meal on the extended patios of places like Pepper Cat or The Salty Dog. No matter when you go, be sure to check out King’s Navy Yard Park and enjoy some of the best scenery and greenspace Amherstburg has to offer this summer.
