Construction continues on the Gordie Howe International Bridge, Canada's and Windsor's newest international border crossing point. The end of 2023 brough good news and the start of 2024 brought some not great news. In Decemeber of 2023, the Canadian tower on the Gordie Howe International Bridge project reached its full height of 220 metres or 722 feet marking another historic moment in the project’s construction. The Canadian tower is now the tallest structure in the city of Windsor. The US tower rivals the height of Detroit’s tallest building the centre tower at GM Renaissance Center. With the both towers now at tehir final height and construction complete, crews will shift even teir focus even more towards the installation of stay cables to connect the towers to the bridge and road deck segments as they are built. In January of 2024, it was announced that The Gordie Howe International Bridge is delayed by 10 months from its targetted opening date in 2024. The bridge is now scheduled to open in September 2025. The delay was caused by the pandemic according to the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA). In a release they stated that the disruptions caused by the pandemic were even more prevalent for the Gordie Howe International Bridge project given the differing applicable restrictions in the U.S. and Canada as constuction was slated to ramp up.
