The Gordie Howe International Bridge has unveiled initial details of it's dedicated multi-use path. The path will be able to accommodate both pedestrians as well as cyclists crossing between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. It will connect a revitalized historic Sandwich Towne and West Windsor to Detroit.
The Gordie Howe International Bridge has the unique feature allowing users to cross not only by car but also on bike and foot. The 12-foot wide dedicated path will allow traffic flow in both directions and will be separated from vehicle traffic by concrete barriers providing additional comfort for users. This path will be toll-free, allowing users to freely utilize the approximately 2.5km path. Once on either side of the bridge, this path will have dedicated processing facilities to accommodate users. On the Canadian side, the path will lead to trails like the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway Trail, the Chrysler Greenway, and the bridge is the first international bridge to join the Trans Canada Trail. On the US side of the border, you will have access to Joe Louis Greenway, Iron Belle Train, and Great Lakes Way. Check out the document below from the Gordie Howe International Bridge showing some additional details and renders of how this community connecting path will look.
