They mark the official start to summer for Windsor-Essex, the fireworks over the Detroit River. With school coming to a close, the annual show draws in huge crowds of spectators to watch the sky's over Downtown Windsor and Downtown Detroit light up with fireworks and usher in the summer for our region.
This year the Ford Fireworks will be held on Monday June 24, 2024. The show is scheduled to begin at 9:30 pm and run until about 10:00 pm, when the ground shaking finale concludes. Of course, this is all weather dependent as we have learned in the past. You'll want to get downtown early however to beat the road closures and find some good parking. Others prefer to park farther away and walk to the foot of the Detroit River and find a spot on Riverside Drive to watch the show. There is also live entertainment, food vendors, and activities for the whole family. Keep an eye out as we get closer to the event to learn about street closures for the event as Ouellette typically closes and of course Riverside Drive West will be closed. Additional downtown streets like Goyeau and McDougall will have closures or restrictions for the event along with other North/South running streets as they approach the waterfront. This years event will mark the 66th time the shared Windsor-Detroit skyline is lit up by the firework display. If you cannot make the event in-person, it is also broadcast on TV on LIVE WDIV-Local 4 from Detroit and set to music so you can still enjoy the show from home.
