Expect delays and traffic in East Windsor and Tecumseh as construction is set to begin on the new interchange at Banwell Road and E.C. Row Expressway. The $50 million interchange project will help with the traffic increases in the area due to the NextStar Batter plant starting production as well as the over 3000 housing units approved by the City of Windsor through 13 rezonings allowing for high rises to serve the area.
The interchange project will begin in February with tree and brush cutting to begin the process to minimize the impact on nesting. From there shovels are expected to be in the ground in March or April and construction will continue through the remainder of 2025, all of 2026, and final paving is scheduled for 2027. The province is also providing $18.8-million to widen Banwell Road, extend Wyandotte Street East, and improve the Banwell Road-McNorton Street intersection.
Take a look at the plans below from the City of Windsor's Environmental Impact Study to preview what the new construction projects will look like.
