Tip Tower, the popular tourist attraction at Point Pelee National Park, has officially reopened to visitors after nearly two years of being closed.
First opened in 2019, Tip Tower offers panoramic views of Point Pelee National Park home of Canada's southernmost point. Standing 24 metres tall, 144 steps take you to the top and the stairs are wide enough for traffic up and down the tower. Tip Tower was closed in 2022 when a routine safety check found issues with the guard rail system and a third-party was called in to review the tower to ensure the safety of the public.
The review showed the actual strucutre was sound and just the guard rail system had issues. Over the course of 2023 and 2024 engineering studies, project tendering, updated designs, and finally fabrication and construction was completed in order to make Tip Tower safe for public use once again and this February 2025 Parks Canada announced it is open to the public and once again safe for use. Over the next few weeks, weather permitting, final cosmetic work and details will be completed on the project.
With spring approaching, do you plan to head to Point Pelee and climb the tower?
