Boarded-up Homes On Indian Road Due For Demo

After years of neglect, demolition is underway on a number of houses at the bottom of the Ambassador Bridge in West Windsor. Permits for 14 demolitions were issued by the City of Windsor to have the boarded up properties removed. The homes are located in the 600-block of Indian Road between Wyandotte Street and Mill Street and on Rosedale Avenue.

The Canadian Transit Company's (CTC), the owners of the Ambassador Bridge, plan to construct a secondary plaza at the foot of the bridge for commercial traffic utilizing the bridge. The federal permit for the construction was awarded in 2017 but over the years the City of Windsor and the CTC have been locked in legal disputes about the status of a number of homes in Windsor's west end.

This effort to remove homes and possibly move forward with construction of an additional plaza comes as the Gordie Howe International Bridge nears completion and is scheduled to be open and operational by September of 2025.
