Windsor-Essex: A Golfer’s Paradise
If you’re a golfer, Windsor and Essex County has you covered. The Windsor-Essex area is home to 21 different golf courses an overwhelming number of them being open to the public providing ample opportunities to get out and hit the links.
Inside the city limits of Windsor lies 3 of the courses. On the east side of the city is Little River Golf Course. Located just on Lauzon Road off of Lauzon Parkway. This 9-hold public course is a local favourite for people only looking to play a quick 9. Next up is Roseland Golf and Curling Club in South Windsor just off of Dougall Avenue. This 18-hole public golf course is designated an Ontario Heritage site and was designed by Donald Ross, who worked at the historic St. Andrews course. Lastly, the crown jewel in Windsor is Ambassador Golf Club located just off of Ojibway Parkway. One of the region's premiere courses, Ambassador was ranked as one of the Top 59 public courses in all of Ontario.
Moving into Lasalle, you’ll find some more excellent courses to play. Seven Lakes Golf Course is located near Laurier Parkway and features an 18 hole championship golf course and their original 9 hole course as well. Next in Lasalle is the first private course on the list, Essex Golf and Country Club. Located on Matchette Road just off of E.C. Row, you’ll need to know a member to visit this beautiful golf course and play an amazing 18 holes. Lastly in Lasalle is Dominion Golf and Country Club. One of the area’s oldest golf courses, this course is great for all levels of golfer and also includes their Dominion Golf Dome, an indoor driving range.
Tecumseh is home to Beach Grove Golf and Curling Club. Nestled along the banks of Lake St. Clair, this private, full-year club is home to a beautiful yet challenging 18 course along with clubhouse and event space. Beyond Tecumseh in Belle River is Rochester Place Golf Club and Resort. This 18 hole course mixes links style and old fashioned tree lined fairways to create a unique round of golf.
As we move to the county, you’ll find more amazing courses. Amherstburg is home to two courses. First is Fox Glen Golf Club. Located just south of Highway 401, this member-owned but public course provides 18 holes and is suitable for any level of golfer and provides a fun but challenging round. Located off of Front Road, Pointe West Golf Club is a private golf course considered one of the areas best. The sprawling, links style 18 hole course is challenging but rewarding and their greens meet or exceed USGA standards.
Heading further into the county in Kingsville is Kingsville Golf and Country Club. This championship quality course is made up of 3 different 9 hole courses. In neighbouring Ruthven is Orchard View Golf Course. An 18-hole public course, this is a less challenging course than others and offers a more relaxed day on the course.
In Leamington you will find Erie Shores Golf and Country Club. Leamington’s public course, Erie Shores, is 18 holes situated along the Great Lakes and features tree lined fairways and stunning views.
The Harrow, Maidstone, and Woodslee area is also home to a few courses as well. In Harrow is Oxley Beach Golf Course. Located along the Lake Erie Wine Route this 18 hole, par-3 course is Canada’s southernmost golf course and provides a fun round for all levels of players. Moving into Maidstone is the Royal Estate Golf Club. Providing 18-holes, this course offers 3 sets of tees to accommodate all players. Woodslee is home to two golf courses. Belleview Golf Club is an 18 hole championship course best known for its layout and is also home to a 9 hole Executive course made up of Par 4 and Par 3 holes. The St. Clair College Woodland Hills Golf Course is home to the St. Clair College golf team. It is a 9-hole, Par 3 Golf Course, perfect to get in your quick 9.
Essex is home to our last 3 courses. Willow Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf course in the heart of Essex. A fun course for all players to experience. Wildwood Golf and RV Resort can also be found in Essex. An 18 hole championship golf course, it offers a gorgeous and peaceful country setting to get a round of golf in. Finally in Essex is Sutton Creek Golf Club. Another public, 18-hole golf course, they provide best of class facilities and golf experience.
