Buyers Guide: Why To Buy In The Winter

 

If you are in the market for a new home and have been looking to buy but have not had any luck you might decide to put the home search on hold like many others do this time of year. Both buyers and sellers tend to put their real estate goals on hold come December until the middle or tail end of January and pick things back up come February.  

 

However, a savvy REALTOR® will tip you off that this time of the year is where opportunity lies. It can be the best time of the year to get a bargain as a buyer. Why is that you ask? Well, if a home is currently listed, the seller is most likely highly motivated to sell. Consider this, the seller is inviting strangers into their home to see it during not only the holidays but a worsening second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Right now sellers with their homes listed are dealing with way less buyers than during the hotter selling periods. This means that some, albeit not all, of these sellers may be starting to face some pressure to sell. Maybe they’ve purchased a home and it will be closing and they need to move on from their current home. There is no time of the year when you will find more motivated sellers than right now. During those peak times they’ll sit back and wait for the offers to flow in and take the best one. With those offers drying up, buyers have a window to flip the script and get a deal on their end.

 

While we know it is not exactly the ideal time for basically all of us. We all have so much going on trying to carry on as normal as restrictions will allow, but there is an opportunity. If you wait until February and March, like everyone else in the market, you’ll find a much different market than the current one. There buyers will flood back in and once again the scales will tip to the sellers side again. So if you are in the market for a home and can do so, shop now!
