Can dogs buy real estate ? Unfortunately not, now matter how adorable they are. You certainly can buy real estate however!
Today we are back with our own Jumper Andrew MacLeod as he discusses in brief the 6 steps to buying real estate. Make sure you read to the bottom and check out his video with a cameo from his amazing new puppy. Let’s get to Andrew’s six steps:
Get a job and work at that job for approximately 90 days.
Sure you can look at homes, but without an steady income, lenders won’t approve you for a mortgage. Work enough time to build up at least a baseline of income history and allow lenders to estimate how much money you’ll make.
Apply to different banks, credit unions and mortgage brokers for a pre approval to buy a house.
You can’t look for a home without a pre-approval. Check with a variety of lenders because they’ll all differ. Once you know how much a lender will pre-approve you for, you can take this next step.
Interview different Realtors to see which ones will suit your needs. They all specialize in different types of Real Estate so this ones important.
Don’t try and go it alone. A REALTOR® is an invaluable asset in ensuring a smooth and easy buying process. They’ll help you every step of the way and find the right house for you to look at and ensure you’re taken care of. Make sure your agent specializes in what you’re looking for. Residential and commercial real estate are very different paths.
Go and view homes for sale.
Finally, the time you have been waiting for. With your steady job, your pre-approval, and your REALTOR® leading the way, you are ready to start looking at homes. Your agent will help put together lists of homes you may like based on your wants, needs, price range, etc. All that’s left to do is visit them and when you see something that fits for you, it's onto step 5.
Pick the home you like best and write an offer. If your offer is accepted and the terms are agreed you just bought a house!
Caution, this isn’t a quick process in today's market. Be prepared to have to be patient. Once you find the right one and that offer is accepted, your agent will help you close and then it’s time to move in.
Buy a dog, everyone likes a cute dog!
Okay back to the dog (or cat, we don’t judge), this isn’t exactly a required step. This is more about moving in. You have your home, get your belongings in and start making it yours!
