Tips and Tricks: Showing Your Home in the Winter
If you are selling your home you may think the winter months will be slow and you may not get much of any action on your home at all. While the market does slow during the holidays, the winter season can still be busy and buyers in the market will still want to see your home. In this post, we’ll highlight some tips and tricks for showing your home in the winter to create the best impression!
- Clear the Snow and Ice
- When mother nature comes around in the winter it looks beautiful on the front lawn creating a winter landscape. However, make sure your driveway, walkways, paths, and entrances are cleared and salted, you want them to fall in love with the home, but not literally!
- Welcome in the Light
- Winter time can mean shorter days and less natural light. It is important to help create a bright and inviting environment. If it is sunny, open those blinds! You can also add light by utilising lamps, closet lights, and other light fixtures you may not consider, but when combined with main lighting and natural light, it creates a warmer feeling.
- Create a Comfy and Cozy Environment
- Make the home feel like, well home. It is winter after all, throw some blankets on the couch, place some winter flowers or other decorative pieces around the home to help the buyers envision themselves living there
- Keep the Scents to a Minimum
- You may be tempted to light a nice winter scented candle like the smell of evergreen, gingerbread, or the crackling fireplace. Remember not everyone has the same nose as you and some may even be allergic or sensitive to certain perfume like smells. Try to keep the scent to neutral or as some call it “fresh and clean”
- Keep it Clean
- We mean like clean like you're having royalty over for a fancy dinner. Try and keep windows clean, yes we know it is winter. Other things like dusting, small touch-ups like caulking or paint touch ups, and making sure fixtures are clean all help create a more pristine home for buyers to envision themselves in.
